Summer evening style

With June now here, the arrival of beautiful weather, and hopes that things are slowly starting to get back to some kind of normality, you may be considering going ‘out out’ for the first time, in a very long time!

Styling clients tend to fall into two camps when it comes to outfits for going out – either those that love getting dressed up and the chance to wear something special, or those that really don’t see what all the fuss is about and would live in jeans or joggers, whatever the occasion. I’m a big believer in being comfortable but also feeling great in what you wear. It genuinely makes a huge difference to your mindset and I’m firmly in the ‘everything and the kitchen sink’ when it comes to getting dressed up!

So, with that in mind, here are some ideas for full on dressed up glamour, or pieces that will take you from day to night, if you prefer your going out look to be more casual.

First up is a showstopper of a dress from independent brand, Delfi Collective, £445. It’s true that it’s an investment piece, but this maxi-dress features a stunning baroque inspired Filagree floral print in a vibrant pink and red with puff sleeves, v-neck and a flattering cut for all body shapes. The elastic waist allows for ultimate comfort too!

If you love the bright colours of the Delfi dress, but would like something from the High Street, this easy-to-wear red dress from Thought Clothing, £89.95, is a great option. The cotton fabric means you’ll stay cool, and the shape and belt offer you a dress that you could easily dress up with heels or down with trainers and sandals – this is a beautiful all-rounder.

While this is a beach dress, if we experience some of the high temperatures, we had last year, this white linen pick from Boden, £85, will ensure you don’t overheat. It has a unique crochet embroidery around the neckline and is designed with a flattering gathered waist and straight above-the-knee skirt. Pair with gold heels and accessories to dress this up.

Bring your own sunshine with this yellow bardot dress from River Island, £50. The floral print makes this a feminine and flattering choice.

Any 80’s fashion fan will love the colour of this satin dress from Warehouse, £55.20, and the puff sleeves and cut out detail, give the perfect retro feel.

It wouldn’t be summer without a classic gingham dress, and New Look have a great mini dress, £23.99, that will work with trainers, flats, or heels. Give this outfit full on glamour with red lipstick, and matching accessories.

If it’s not a night out, without wearing a black dress, try something a bit different from C/MEO Collective, £214.95. Gathered balloon sleeves and an elasticated waist give you an alternative dress shape.

If you’re not keen on dresses but love to wear jeans and a nice top, then have a look at Reiss. Their Nora spot top, £45, is crafted from chiffon fabric with velvet and metallic spots all over and would work with jeans, trousers, and skirts, giving you a versatile piece that will create lots of great outfits.

You can’t go wrong with a classic shirt for going out, and Mango is one brand that’s the ideal go-to. They have a wide range and this satin finish flowy shirt, £29.99, is ideal to pair with shorts, jeans, and skirts.

Finally, a pair of statement linen trousers from Mint Velvet, £89. They are designed to sit high on your waist, with a smooth front and convenient back pockets. Cut from pure linen fabric for its drape and lightness, they're designed in a wide-leg silhouette for an airy summer look. Pair with the matching shirt, heels, and lots of jewellery for a look you can’t miss!
